Celeste and Jesse Forever

"Do you wanna be right or wanna be happy?"

I had been looking for this movie everywhere possible and when I had lost hope I suddenly found its DVD in a store near my home right at the bottom of the stacks.  I didn't think twice and bought it right away, it was the best thing happened to me today. Celeste and Jesse Forever easily made its way to my list of favorite movies. This movie is just that great.

The story revolves around two best friends, Celeste & Jesse. They have been together since forever. They dated, got married, and somewhere along the way their marriage didn't work out very well because Jesse didn't have any 'real job' therefore he wasn't the kind of man Celeste wanted to build a family with. Jesse is a very laid-back, immature guy, he does art for living but he doesn't seem to be serious about it, while Celeste is a successful trend forecaster who just released a book and also has a firm working in marketing sector. Although their friends disapprove, Both Celeste and Jesse believe that their divorce won't affect their friendship and they'll still be best friend forever. They even still live together although Jesse lives in the garage behind the house, they still do their routine together and have dinner together. The problem starts to arise when Jesse tries to get serious with a girl and Celeste finds that she might not be ready to move on.

While the plot sounds very cliche, the movie is far from it. I believe this movie has just proved that Romantic-Comedy movie can be more than just about entertaining its viewers. Each of the main characters have their own complexity and issues to be solved, I was actually surprised by the depth they show. Both Jones and Samberg really blow me away, they portray the character very well; the love, the emotions, the anger, the hurts, everything was shown delicately. And the chemistry between them is amazing, you can actually feel how much their character love each other, it's kind of surprising since none of them had played drama  before.
One of my favorite thing from this movie is how real it is. The characters are not perfect, they are not superficial, they are so humane and very much alive. The story isn't fairytale, it isn't very dramatic but still manages to be enticing, it has the right portion of melodrama and comedy.

It's a story of loving someone, it's a story of moving on,  it's a story of finding your self and giving it a chance.

It's definitely one of my favorite romantic movie ever, and you should all probably watch it too :-)

Moonrise Kingdom

Moonrise Kingdom
Director: Wes anderson
Writers: Wes Anderson Roman Coppola
Stars: Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward, Bruce Willis, Bill Muray, Edward Norton

"A pair of young lovers flee their New England town, which causes a local search party to fan out and find them."

Moonrise Kingdom is a movie directed by Wes Anderson. Sets in 1965, in a remote coastal city, this movie tells a story about two 12 years old chilren. Sam, a talented khaki scout who has a very distinguished personality than the others. Suzy, a troubled child who is not happy with her own family. They meet accidentaly in a chruch and they have been writting letters to each other since then. Dissatisfied with life they're living, and looking for adventures, they begin a journey through the wilderness together. Their missing put everyone in chaos, and so the hunting begins.

This movie is really beautiful, it's just briliant. The story is simple, and is told very straightfully.

The main characters are potrayed as two naive children who are looking for something bigger that what they know. Their love story is also really interesting, although these two may don't seem to match each other and there seems to be lack of interaction at the beginning, you can't help but be drawn to their relationship.
It's just really sweet.

The movie captures the naivity, the magical and adventurous side of children and it also shows the awkwardness of being a pre-teenager. But they're not the only stars in the story, the other supporting characters also build a considerable amount of the main story.

I won't say it's a funny movie, but there surely some great scenes that will make you laugh and smile throughout the movie.

It has great casts, beautiful cinematic shots, arousing soundtrack, and magical atmosphere.
It's a briliant movie indeed :)

4/5 stars

Cin(T)a

I spent my friday nigth watching a beautiful film, Cin(T)a

Cina (yes, that's his real name) is a young naive new student from Tapanuli, he comes to bandung to study Architecture in ITB.  Anissa is a 26 years old student of architecture in ITB. Anissa's study is often disturbed by her works in the entertaiment industry. She is a famous celebrity whose beauty only makes her lonely. Anissa is a muslim from java, while Cina is a bataknese obedient christian.
At first they weren't close, Cinna underestimated her, he believed in Newton's 1st law "Beauty goes inversely with cleverness". But things happen and they become closer, so close that love flourishes between them. But then they have to face the biggest obstacle, their different beliefs.
Anisa loves Cina, Cina loves Anisa, but they love God more.

The title, Cin(T)a, stands for Cina-Tuhan-Anisa.

I know I'm not a good reviewer but it won't hurt to take a look ;)
This movie has been really brave to pick such a very sensitive topic. Belief. God. Differences. Some people think this movie is controversial, but it's actually not. You just need to be mature enough to watch it and don't be narrow-minded, please.
My favorite thing about this movie is absolutely the scenarios! They are simple, smart, and straightforward! it's like listening to a book of quotation. They are delivered in simple ways, just like normal conversation, but it's much deeper.
I also like the story, it's simple yet very complicated. It's not superficial, it feels so real. and honestly although their problem has nothing to do with me, I totally cried. Such a sad fate for a great couple.
There are many simple scenes that will catch your eyes, my favorites are:
when cinna calls and doesn't say anything
when cinna watches anisa takes whudu
the 'bye cantiek'
when they sit together and say 'this is it'

The only thing I kinda hate is the background sound. Sometimes they can be too much and covers the character's voices.

btw, Sunny Soon is too adroable for words in this movie, asfssd

Check Out the Trailer!

"Kenapa Allah menciptakan kita berbeda-beda kalau Ia hanya ingin disembah dengan satu cara?"
"Makanya Allah nyiptain cinta, biar yang beda-beda bisa nyatu!"

if you have cool head, and is looking for something different, something that gives you a different point of view, I seriously recommend this movie.

My Sassy Girl

I really love this movie, I think it's one of the best romantic comedy movie I've watched. But which one am I talking about? the Korean or American one?

The story started when a 25 years old lazy engineering student saved a drunk girl in a train station. The girl wasn't an ordinary girl, she's abusive, pretty, and her mood swing was very bad. Somehow they got very close, their relationship wasn't simple. He saw sadness behind her smiles as she kept a secret hidden inside her memory.

This is the kind of movie that will warm your heart. A light movie that has good amount of humor, tear-jerking scenes, and lovely storyline.

Starred by Cha Tae Hyun and Jun Ji Hyun, this movie can trigger the emotion of the audience, and makes them engaged with the story line. For a Romantic Comedy, it has a pretty long duration (123 minutes) But I guess you won't feel it because this movie is just really good.

Both Taehyun and Jihyun  play out their character and show their emotion really well. And also they have great chemistry. At some point you may forget that it's not real story of real people.

My Favorite scenes! (SPOILER ALERT- if you have intention to watch it, I advice you not to read the text below)

When Gyeon Woo gave her a rose in her school, Their stares were so intense, That was the first thing that made me realized they need to be together

When He told the other guy what to do, and what not to do. I cried. it was almost like he had given up on her, and he wanted to make sure that guy would be good to her. it was terribly heart breaking

When they met at the station, and he hugged her like she was the most precious thing on earth. :')

When she shouted from afar. "I'm Sorry", the way she said it "Mianhe..! Mianhe!" really heartbreaking.

When they met again. Imagine the happiness <3

-----------------------

I had watched both of them, and I had watched the American one first. I fell in love with that movie right away, I didn't believe when people say that the original one (Korean) is better. But was I right?
Yesterday I finally watched the Korean version one and boy.. I was wrong indeed....
The American one is good, but not amazing. It will leave you smiling, but it won't make you feel the kind of emotion like the Korean one does. And the acting, the chemistry is better in the Korean version.
Basically the storyline was the same, it's just in the American one it shows a rather more mature relationship.

if you want to see a good light movie, I really recommend this one 4/5

The Raid

I know that I'm in the middle of Examination, and although it's not the big National Exam, it's still one of the most important exam. But I can't help it, two great movies release this week! how am I supposed to sit back at home and study when my mind is all over those movie? So yes I decided to watch both of them. two days in row.

The first movie I watched was 'THE RAID'

I and my brother had planned to watch this movie months ago, when it was shown in some Movie Festival, but unfortunately we hadn't got the ticket. I wasn't really interested at first, because I thought that Indonesian action movie must be very cheesy. But DAMN this movie proved me wrong
I'm not a good reviewer but I just can't stop talking about this movie.
I really didn't expect much from the beginning, I found the lines were rather corny, It felt like it had been written in English initially and then translated into Indonesian. But it didn't bother me anymore when they started showing the action. First of all I'm gonna warn you, if you want to see some heart breaking drama, super mind blowing complicated plot, and a movie that makes you 'think', you'd be very disappointed. Because the plot was very simple and rather cliche. But I guess when you watch this movie you'd have no time to think about the plot. You'd have your eyes and brain glued to the screen, thinking 'is this shit for real?!'
This movie is about a group of special cops, something like the SWAT trying to break into a Headquarter of a big criminal. But to reach the floor where the big boss is, they must survive the brutality of the followers. But basically this movie only focus in one guy. Rama, a 'newbie' cop whose wife is pregnant.
I'm usually never interested in action movie, but this movie got me hooked. The Raid shows fighting scene with intensity that you'll never forget. The choreography was BEAUTIFUL, there were various techniques and weapon used. Each fighting scene will leave you breathless. Also not to forget that they use 'Pancak Silat' here. Don't even get me started with the scoring, the scoring was really great, it captured all the emotion that scene trying to show perfectly,  I just found out that the scoring was done specially by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park!  wow. One of my favorites thing about this movie is, it doesn't use much visual effect and the fighting scene didn't use some crazy technology like most of Hollywood action movies. it was a real fighting scene, with bare hand and simple weapon.
And also the supernumeraries! I wonder how they got that much people, I mean although they didn't really fight they at least must had known somehting about fighting right? Those guys were really crazy, almost like zombies. lol
Iko Uwais (plays Rama) and Yayan Ruhian (plays Mad Dog) choreographed the fighting scene magnificently. There was also Doni Alamsyah who is blessed with overloading charisma.
Overall, in my opinion the acting of the main characters were great. Especially Iko, Yayan, Dony, and Ray Sahetapy. But I found some of the minor characters weren't good enough.  Still it didn't really bother me though,
After watching this movie, I still couldn't forget the thrill that it brought, and it makes the other action movies feel plain.
I really salute all of the people behind this movie. Can't wait for Garreth Evan's next project!
